A company’s salary/bonus system will inevitably push sales in an easy to understand direction. Sales people in general run in the direction in which you place the carrot. It will explain why your sales force focus on a certain type of customers, e.g. pursuing new customers while neglecting existing. My wife and I decided to go to our favorite NY style pizza place a couple years ago. The service was kind of lousy but the pizza was excellent. My wife is originally from New Jersey and knows what authentic NY style pizza is and this was authentic.
When we got there we quickly realized that the restaurant’s ownership had changed. The waitress was the aunt of the new owners and she was extremely pleasant and accommodating. One of the partners came out and welcomed us to the restaurant. This was already a big improvement in service over the last place.
When they gave us the menus we were pleased to see it was the exact same menu the old owners used. We were thinking this is great, same food, same prices but a lot better service.
Buy Land And Build A House
Filed Under Business, Publishing | Posted on January 31, 2009
Buy land, build a house and sell it. A simple sounding formula, and in some areas there is a lot of profit potential. The downside? This is actually more complicated than many ways of real estate investing, and may require a lot of cash.
There is profit to be made buying land at a good price and selling it. There is profit to be made developing the land into lots, and profit to be made building houses. This way puts all three of these together. That makes it potentially three times as profitable and it also means three times as many surprises during the course of the project.

Every year there are millions of people who make the decision to start an internet marketing home business. Of the many people who set out to achieve success online, very few actually achieve any real success. The fact is it does not have to be this way. Writing A Grant Proposal The Easy Way

Before starting any grant application, one must be certain they are even qualified to receive the grant monies that may be available to them. Also, understanding the eligibility requirements is key. You must check what the agency is requesting and be prepared to show documentation as to what you are planning on doing.
The next step in the grant process is the proposal. The proposal is a very important step because it could make or break you intentions of obtaining the grant. Many people believe these proposals are not actually read but are intended to be busy work or just additional red tape. This could not be further from the truth. The proposal is a very important aspect of the entire process. They are read and decided upon. The proposal must have a specific purpose and a very goal oriented outcome in order for it to be successful.
Outsourcing Corporate Support Functions - Sort Of
Filed Under Business | Posted on January 31, 2009
The outsourcing craze continues in the US and, for the most part, I’m a supporter of it IF you can maintain or improve quality while lowering costs. Unfortunately, that is not always the case but that is a subject for a different article (just call customer service for any of your credit card or loan accounts).
Functions that are not considered a part of the company’s core competency are typically prime for outsourcing. This includes corporate overhead functions. Corporate overhead (i.e. headquarters or non operational functions) can include but is not limited to Human Resources, Legal, Information Technology, Internal Audit, and Corporate Accounting. These groups function for the overall good of the company and, in theory, their costs need to be spread out to operational units since they are the beneficiaries of these services.
Tips For Negotiating Salary
Filed Under Business | Posted on January 31, 2009
1. Don’t negotiate salary at interview
Whilst both you and a prospective employer might be keen to agree salary at interview, don’t bring it up. Usually before you apply for any job there will be a guide to what salary is on offer. If you’re asked what salary is on offer simply state “The practical details can be worked out at a later date”
Not discussing salary at interview will improve their respect for you as it gives the impression that salary is less important than the role itself, even if it isn’t. You interviewers will be left with a positive impression of you and are more likely to offer a good salary because of it.
2. Always turn down the first salary offer

Alcohol does many things – and being an intoxicant, a drug and even dangerous in large amounts means that a consideration of whether or not to serve alcohol at your event should not be taken lightly. When thinking about alcohol – yes or no at your event – you should consider whether or not serving alcohol will end up being more trouble than it is worth. There are several reasons why one chooses to serve alcohol – here’s a few.
