My Braintrust, a group of five business founders and CEOs, recently articulated business goals to each other, described obstacles and steps, and set deadlines for ourselves. We did this because we want to be held accountable.
This made me think about what it means to be accountable.
Dictionaries define accountable in mostly negative or punitive terms: you’re liable, you’ll be blamed, you are responsible.
The Braintrust sees accountability in a positive light: it lets us celebrate success, ask for and receive help when we’re stuck, and clarify next steps and how long it will take to do them. Accountability is about action now and recognition of our actions, large and small.

Well, the answer is simple, but not blatantly obvious. The main reason that most people have a difficult time finding a top-tier home business opportunity is because most of what they stumble into nowadays doesn’t possess the most important critical success factors that are absolutely necessary to insure the highest probability of success for the incoming entrepreneur.
I’ve spent the past six years trying out different home businesses. Some had good potential, most didn’t. I can honestly say that the ones that did have potential but didn’t work for me was because those particular businesses weren’t a good fit for me personally.

As a retired entrepreneur, often up and coming college students or future business people will shoot me an email and ask me questions. Not long ago someone emailed me and asked me what satisfaction did I get out of building my business - a mobile car wash franchising company?
Well, one of the benefits of being an entrepreneur, winning the game and then retiring as such is that you have to answer to no one, which I certainly like, the freedom I mean. Why did I retire and sell my company? I got tired of the lawyers, regulators and the like, trying to tell me how best to serve my franchisees and customers and how to run my business. It is so onerous and hypocritical for a nation that prides itself on Freedom and Free Markets to act as we do here.
